COVID-19: Niger Governor Orders Civil Servants To Stay At Home

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, has directed all civil servants to stay at home. He ordered civil servants, from level 1-12, to stay off work except those providing essential services. The governor gave the instructions on Monday while addressing the residents of the state, following the spread of the coronavirus. According to him, the state has no record of the virus but the government is putting in place measures to curb any possible spread. He also directed the closure of all Almajiri schools in the state with immediate effect from today, Monday 23. Governor Abubakar further declared a curfew from 8:00AM to 8:00PM effective from Wednesday, March 25. “All public gatherings have been banned from today,” he said. “Only those carrying out essential services will be allowed.” Below is the Governor’s full speech  BROADCAST BY ALHAJI (DR.) UPDATED: Nigeria Records First COVID-19 Death

Nigeria has recorded the first case of death to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced this on Monday via its verified Twitter handle. According to NCDC, the case was a 67-year-old male who returned home following medical treatment in the UK. He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy. The 1st  #COVID19  death in Nigeria has been recorded. UPDATED: Confirmed Cases Of COVID-19 In Nigeria Rise To 36

The figure rose after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Monday that six new cases had been confirmed. According to the health agency, this is the latest update on the disease as of 10:35am on March 23, 2020. As of 9:45am, a breakdown of the figure showed that two cases were confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos respectively, while one case was confirmed in Edo State. Of the total figure of 35 reported earlier, Lagos State and the FCT recorded 24 and six confirmed cases of COVID-19, being the highest in the country. Similarly, Ogun State has confirmed two cases while Ekiti, Oyo, and Edo States have recorded one case each. In tweets on its verified handle on Monday, the NCDC explained that 33 of the confirmed cases were active while the other two had been discharged.

Edo State has recorded its first confirmed coronavirus case. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced this on Monday via its verified Twitter handle. Coronavirus: Netflix To Reduce Streaming Quality In Europe To Avoid Overload

Netflix will reduce the quality of its streaming in Europe to ease pressure on the internet, the firm said, as demand soars across the continent where millions are confined to their homes over coronavirus fears.   The streaming giant will “begin reducing bit rates across all our streams in Europe for 30 days,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “We estimate that this will reduce Netflix traffic on European networks by around 25 percent while also ensuring a good quality service for our members,” the statement added.
